Fraxel Laser Resurfacing

Using scientifically proven laser technology to penetrate and resurface the skin, Fraxel Laser Resurfacing triggers your body’s healing processes to revive your natural skin tone and smooth the face for a more radiant, healthy complexion. This non-invasive treatment targets multiple skin discolourations, scars, and textural skin concerns.

Over a lifetime, the skin is exposed to various harmful toxins and UV rays, which can have damaging effects on the skin. Our skin also begins to experience natural effects of the aging process caused by a loss of collagen and elastin, the two proteins which keep the skin firm and flexible. This can result in a prevalence of spots, lines, and wrinkles. Fortunately, these effects can be reversed with laser resurfacing treatments.

Fraxel’s patented fractional laser technology can significantly improve your skin tone and texture. Upon assessment, this treatment is commonly used to treat the face, neck, décolletage, hands, and various other body parts. We recommend that you book a complimentary consultation to determine if Fraxel is the right choice for you, or call us to speak to one of our friendly staff members.

How it works

Fraxel laser treatments use scientifically proven laser technology to penetrate and resurface the skin. Using this technology, our qualified dermal clinicians will distribute microscopic columns of heat into the skin to stimulate collagen and elastin fibres, achieving a smoother complexion and a more youthful appearance.

Fraxel is so named for treating a ‘fraction’ of the skin. The laser uses deliberately placed laser columns to penetrate the skin’s surface, creating tiny and precise dermal damage whilst leaving the surrounding tissue unaffected. This produces an array of treated and untreated skin next to each other, triggering new cell production and encouraging collagen growth. We also offer Fraxel Dual Laser technology which utilises both laser wavelengths to enhance results further.

The procedure targets aging and damaged skin cells to resolve various surface-level skin issues. The specially designed handpiece allows for maximum accuracy, transferring thermal energy into the dermis (beneath the skin). This creates microscopic injuries that stimulate the body’s natural and healthy healing responses. The process replaces damaged skin and resurfaces healthy epidermal (surface layer) skin.

In short, Fraxel laser treatments trigger healing effects to revive your natural skin tone, leaving your face smoother and more radiant.

Ideal candidates for Fraxel laser resurfacing

Fraxel laser treatments are suitable for a wide range of people. Anyone seeking a non-invasive solution to skin pigmentations, scars, or signs of aging may experience significant benefits from the procedure. A consultation will be necessary to ascertain your suitability for the treatment and develop a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and skin issues. This will also allow you to discuss any concerns or questions you may have.

Generally, ideal candidates are those who have:

  • Skin concerns relating to aging
  • Scars caused by injuries, acne, or surgery
  • Sun-damaged or pigmented skin
  • Realistic expectations

Fraxel laser resurfacing may not be suitable for people with active skin issues such as acne, eczema, and other unhealed skin trauma.

What to expect

The procedure will be tailored in accordance with your individual treatment plan to achieve the best results for your skin. A warm or prickling sensation may be experienced during treatment, but a topical anaesthetic cream will reduce any discomfort.

The laser device will pass over the skin, selectively administering thermal heat into the underlying cells and activating micro trauma. This will encourage healing effects and prompt the development of new skin during recovery. The result is a reduction in surface imperfections, giving your skin a smoother and healthier glow.

The average laser treatment will take one hour to complete, but this can depend on the size of the treated area.

Things to consider

After your Fraxel laser treatment, you may notice some swelling and redness. In the days afterwards, it is common for the skin to peel. These symptoms will usually disappear soon after treatment. Typically, it is recommended that patients take at least a couple of days to recover. However, it will take between one week to 10 days for the skin to finish peeling.

Results may take around a week to develop after your skin sheds the surface layer of dead cells. You will need to follow your personalised aftercare plan to ensure optimal results and reduce any side effects. During the healing process, you may be required to:

  • Avoid sun exposure
  • Avoid wearing makeup
  • Refrain from picking or rubbing the skin\
  • Avoid exfoliating the skin
  • Take time to rest
