IPL Rejuvenation M22

A fast ‘lunch time’ treatment, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Rejuvenation M22, uses broad wavelengths of light to target skin concerns such as fine lines, wrinkles, rosacea, skin laxity, and multiple pigmentation issues. IPL stimulates your body’s natural collagen production and healing processes to create invigorated, enhanced skin that is visibly smoother.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) photorejuvenation is an effective light therapy treatment intended to reverse the harmful effects of sun skin damage that can happen during our lifetime. It’s also effective at targeting other skin conditions, such as age spots, pigmentation, broken capillaries, elastosis, fine lines and wrinkles, redness, and rosacea. ILP photorejuvenation can also be an alternative to laser hair removal treatments.

IPL emits broad wavelengths of light primarily absorbed by the skin’s melanin to treat dark spots and pigmentation or through the blood to target vascular skin issues. A fast ‘lunch time’ treatment with minimal downtime, IPL photorejuvenation is a non-invasive, gentle treatment designed to stimulate your body’s natural healing process to eliminate skin imperfections and treat skin conditions whilst encouraging natural collagen production. This results in a youthful, enhanced appearance and visibly smoother skin that’s evenly toned with a reduced appearance of pores.

At our Flawless Rejuvenation clinics, we use the M22 multi-application device made by Lumenis, the inventors of IPL photorejuvenation who have designed and perfected IPL therapy treatments with their cutting-edge technology. We offer IPL treatments using the M22 device in our Hampton clinic and the Venus Versa device at our Toorak clinic. Our patients experience safe and optimal treatments with our Lumenis devices.

How it works

IPL photorejuvenation uses light therapy technology that emits different wavelengths of gently pulsing light to penetrate down into the second layer of the skin without harming the top layer, causing less damage to your skin. The darker pigments creating the appearance of sunspots, age spots, pigmentation, broken capillaries, redness, and rosacea, are drawn to the heat and light emitted, absorbing this energy.

Once the focused area of skin tissue is heated, it’s intentionally damaged and broken up to be absorbed by the body or expelled to the surface for exfoliation. The process is designed to activate the body’s natural healing to provide an even skin tone and texture, as well as a rejuvenated, youthful appearance.

The handheld device can be fitted with different light filter wavelengths for customised light therapy suited to your skin type and targeting your specific concerns. This means only the necessary areas of skin are treated, and the range of wavelengths offered with IPL photorejuvenation means multiple skin conditions can be treated at once.

The benefits

There are numerous benefits to receiving IPL photorejuvenation therapy, such as:

Sun Spots

Pigmentation

Skin Laxity

Acne Scars

Other benefits include:

  • Overall improved skin quality
  • Reduce the signs of natural aging
  • Remove broken capillaries
  • Diminish the appearance of brown spots, freckles, rosacea, and redness
  • Remove unwanted dark hair
  • Brighten and tighten the skin
  • Refine and reduce the appearance of pores
  • Promotes production of collagen to plump and enhance skin

IPL photorejuvenation therapy sessions are quicker than other laser skin treatments, with a fast recovery time and fewer side effects as the pulsed light doesn’t damage the top layers of the skin. Several treatments might be required to achieve your desired results.

Ideal candidates for IPL photorejuvenation therapy

Before booking for this service, a skin consultation is required to allow our trained staff to examine and analyse your skin’s overall health. We ask that you identify any problems you are experiencing with your skin and what outcomes you’d like to achieve with this treatment. Ideal candidates will meet the following conditions:

  • Are not pregnant or lactating
  • Have not taken acne medication in the last six months
  • Have not experienced sunburn or prolonged sun exposure recently
  • Do not currently have a fake tan
  • Hold realistic expectations for results

If you have a history of conditions such as severe eczema, seizures, or active infections, you may not be suitable for IPL therapy. IPL photorejuvenation is also not recommended for individuals with darker skin tones as the treatment is designed to target dark pigmentation. It’s also recommended that patients avoid sun exposure for roughly four weeks before treatment.

What to expect

Both the patient and clinician wear unique protective eyewear to protect the eyes during treatment. To make sure you experience minimal discomfort, cooling and numbing gels are applied to the treatment area. Once prepped, the M22 device is passed evenly over your skin, emitting pulses of light similar to the bright flash of a camera. It may be hard to get used to at first, but patients generally grow accustomed to the flashing and become less aware of it. Patients who’ve had IPL therapy often liken the feel of it to a rubber band being flicked on their skin.

Each session takes roughly 45 minutes and can be used anywhere on your body but may not achieve the best results on uneven areas.

Things to consider

Immediately following treatment, you may experience some redness and swelling, depending on your customised treatment settings, but this will usually disappear within a few hours or by the following day. You may also experience some skin shedding which can last for a few days to a week post-treatment. In some cases, you may experience bruising, blistering, skin colour changes, and infection.

To ensure you experience the best possible outcome from IPL rejuvenation, it is recommended that patients follow these post-recovery guidelines:

  • Avoid extensive sun exposure for roughly four weeks after treatment
  • Use a high SPF sunscreen if risking sun exposure
  • Avoid using hot water on the skin until it heals
  • Makeup can be used following treatment

FAQ

How long will it take to see results?

The time it takes for results to appear will differ depending on the severity of your skin conditions. Veins and capillaries may look noticeably lighter or may have disappeared immediately after treatment. Pigmentation issues can take around seven days to two weeks to fully dissipate or absorb into the skin. With IPL treatments, the more severe a patient’s skin condition is, the more dramatic the results can be.

Will I need multiple treatments?

This will depend on the number of concerns you may have and their severity. Multiple treatments might be recommended to achieve the best possible results with IPL therapy to ensure you experience all the benefits of revitalised, enhanced skin.

Does IPL photorejuvenation work on aging skin?

Yes, IPL therapy can treat the signs of natural aging, reversing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. As people age, their body produces less collagen, causing the skin to lose its elasticity and wrinkles to appear. Because of the way IPL photorejuvenation works, it encourages your body to produce more collagen, resulting in a tighter, lifted appearance with firmer, more youthful-looking skin. Patients often leave the treatment with a noticeably healthier glow.
