Matrix PDO mono threads are made from polydioxanone, an absorbable polymer that’s flexible and durable. These threads are smooth and minimally invasive, unlike thread lifts which use a long barb thread to lift the tissue. A PDO mono thread treatment is designed as a support structure for your face to allow natural collagen production. It involves inserting Matrix mono threads into the sub-dermal layer of your skin in a mesh-like pattern to stimulate this collagen production. This creates a tightening effect that rejuvenates and adds volume to the skin as collagen production gradually increases. However, while the mono threads tighten, they do not significantly lift the skin.

What to expect
A topical anaesthetic is applied to reduce discomfort before the procedure begins. Once administered, the PDO threads – each thinner than a single human hair – are inserted in a mesh-like pattern using a microneedle. No incisions or stitches are required for this treatment, hence why it is considered minimally invasive. It can be highly customised with your goals in mind, as your consultant will work with you to achieve optimal results.
Your procedure time will vary based on several factors, including the size of the treatment area, but mono thread sessions can typically take between 30-60 mins. It is recommended that you book your treatment roughly three to four weeks before an event or special occasion, as bruising and swelling will be present for a few days.
Your tightened and revitalised appearance created by PDO mono threads can last for 6-12 months as the threads are slowly absorbed, leaving an established matrix of new collagen in its place that will plump and rejuvenate your skin.
Things to consider
Bruising and swelling are expected but will resolve in the first few days after your treatment. There may also be mild tenderness in the treated areas for approximately 1-2 weeks. It is recommended that you sleep on your back and elevate your head for the first three nights. Ice can be applied to soothe areas of treatment if required.
