Sclerotherapy Leg Vein Treatment
Sclerotherapy is a medical treatment for unwanted leg veins that are beyond the reach of laser or dermal treatments. It targets veins that are too large or too deep for Excel V laser, but do not require surgical vein stripping, using precise injections into the affected veins to improve both appearance and comfort.

What is Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is a medical injection treatment designed to reduce unwanted leg veins that are unsuitable for superficial vascular laser alone. It is ideal for veins that are too large, too deep, or fed by underlying varicose veins, but do not yet require surgical vein stripping. During treatment, a prescription sclerosant solution is injected directly into the affected veins to improve both cosmetic appearance and, in selected cases, symptoms such as heaviness, aching and throbbing in the legs.
At Flawless Rejuvenation, we offer two types of sclerotherapy: direct vision sclerotherapy (microsclerotherapy) for smaller surface veins, and ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy for deeper feeder or varicose veins. The best approach for you is determined during a detailed medical consultation and tailored vein assessment.
Sclerotherapy offers a minimally invasive way to improve the appearance and symptoms of certain leg veins that are not suitable for laser alone.
BENEFITS
Treats veins that are not suitable for laser alone, including selected varicose and reticular veins
Addresses both visible surface veins and underlying feeder veins that contribute to spider veins.
Walk-in, walk-out procedure performed in rooms, with no general anaesthetic required.
Most people return to normal daily activities the same day.
Treatment plan tailored after medical vein assessment, often including venous ultrasound to map all feeder veins.
How it works
Ideal Candidate
You may be suitable for sclerotherapy leg vein treatment if you:
- Have visible leg veins that are too large or extensive for superficial vascular laser alone.
- Have spider veins and reticular veins, with underlying feeder or varicose veins identified by a doctor.
- Experience leg symptoms such as heaviness, aching, throbbing or burning related to superficial leg veins.
- Are not pregnant and not breastfeeding.
- Are in good general health, able to walk after treatment and to wear medical compression stockings as advised.
During your consultation, Dr Bystrzycki will examine your veins (often with ultrasound), review your medical history and medications, and discuss whether sclerotherapy, Excel V laser, or referral to a vascular specialist is most appropriate.

F.A.Q.s
How much does sclerotherapy cost?
Consultation with Dr Bystrzycki is $200 and is redeemable towards treatment within three months. The initial treatment session is $900 for a 60-minute appointment, and repeat treatments are $450 for a 30-minute appointment.
How many treatments will I need?
Most patients need more than one session for the best medical and cosmetic results. The number of treatments depends on how extensive your veins are, how your veins respond, and
whether both deeper feeder veins and surface veins need treatment, with 2–3 sessions being typical. It is usual to treat the feeder veins first and then schedule treatment of the surface veins after about 6 weeks, with many patients seeing the best results from a series of treatments over several months.
What does treatment feel like?
Sclerotherapy involves a series of small injections using a fine needle. Most patients describe mild stinging or discomfort at the injection sites and a tight or heavy feeling in the treated area afterwards, which usually improves quickly with walking and wearing compression stockings.
What is the downtime and aftercare?
Sclerotherapy is a walk-in, walk-out procedure and you can usually return to most normal daily activities the same day. You will be asked to wear a medical compression stocking continuously for the first 24 hours, then during waking hours for 5 to 7 days, avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, saunas, hot baths and long-haul travel for one week, and attend a one-week ultrasound review.
When will I see results?
Some treated veins start to fade within 4 to 6 weeks, while others take longer or require repeat treatments. Final results for each area often take several months to be fully visible, and follow-up visits allow your doctor to plan any supplementary treatments.
What are the possible side effects?
Common short-term effects include bruising, mild pain or aching, small tender lumps along the treated vein, redness and swelling at injection sites, and temporary brown pigmentation or staining, which usually settle with time, walking and compression stockings. Less common effects include matting, persistent pigmentation, or inflammation of the treated vein, while rare but serious risks include allergic reaction, deep vein thrombosis or skin ulceration, all of which will be discussed with you before treatment.
How does sclerotherapy compare with laser vein treatment?
Excel V laser is ideal for many small, superficial spider veins and facial vessels, while sclerotherapy is better suited to leg veins that are larger, deeper or fed by underlying varicose veins. In many treatment plans, both modalities are used together at different stages to address both surface and underlying veins.
Is everyone suitable for sclerotherapy?
Not everyone is suitable for sclerotherapy, as certain medical conditions, medications and personal factors influence whether it is safe and appropriate. Your doctor will review your medical history, examine your veins and discuss all options, and if another treatment or referral to a vascular surgeon is more appropriate, you will be guided through these alternatives.
